49TH EXCLUSIVE: DRAZZ THE ARTISTE

Divine Otu Enyia, also known as Drazz, is an artist who hails from Cross Rivers state but has an active Abuja community. A master’s degree holder in Intellectual Property Law, he made the switch to properly nurture his talents and achieve his dream of becoming a musician. He sits with Dominic of the 49th Street to discuss his career so far and the dynamics involved and employed.

Where did you get your name from?

Drazz: “Drazz” actually came from the phrase “Divine is razz.” It started off as a playful nickname people called me, kind of a joke at first—but over time, I embraced it and made it mine. It’s bold, it’s different, and it speaks to owning who I am, unapologetically.

What was the first ever inspiration you got to do music?

Drazz: The first time I ever performed at a social night, in my Jss1, I was 10 years old. I performed a Drake song, and the little crowd cheered. From there, I believed that was my purpose.

What does music mean to you personally?

Drazz: Music is Expression. Music is the way I express myself. I express what I feel better with music. It may not be directly, but between the lines is the story of my life.

Based on music alone, which city do you rep? Abuja or Cross River? And how has that particular city shaped your music/genre?

Drazz: Haha, that’s a tricky question. But I rep Abuja because Abuja shaped my personality, and my personality equates my sounds. Nevertheless, Home is always home, and Cross River is my motherland! I can’t wait to do a show there to connect with my people better.

Do you have a song you made that you believe everyone should listen to?

Drazz: I believe everyone should listen to every song of mine. To be specific, I believe everyone should listen to Dangote because it amazes me how I summarized two years of my life in one song.

What would you describe as the genre that describes your music best?

Drazz: I’d say Afro-fusion. I don’t want to be limited to a genre; I have to express my versatility, and with Afro-fusion, I can achieve that.

Have you/Would you collaborate with any upcoming artists? If yes, who are these people?

Drazz: As an upcoming artist, I’ve had the chance to work with a few talented up-and-comers, and I’m always open to more collaborations. I believe in growing together and creating meaningful music—no ego, just good vibes and hard work.

If you could pick, who would you love to do a joint tape with (both popular and non-popular)?

Drazz: If I could do a joint tape with any artist, it would be Odumodublvck. I feel like he truly understands music on a deep level, and there’s so much I could learn from working with him.

What’s your take on TikTok as a tool for reaching a larger audience for upcoming musicians?

Drazz: TikTok is a powerful tool for upcoming artists. It gives you direct access to a global audience without needing a big budget or label push. One good video can change everything. Just stay consistent.

If you have, what was your first live performance experience like?

Drazz: I performed at my university, for the first time, nobody knew the song but it was so good that everyone caught a vibe. The love was unreal. These were signs.

So far in the industry, what would you say is the best lesson you’ve learnt?

Drazz: Whatever you do, Never Stop Recording! Recording is food to an artist; it’s what makes you grow internally, and this internal growth is what makes the world appreciate and value you. And while doing this, put God first.

Any tape/projects to expect from you this year?

Drazz: By the special grace of God, there should be a project this year, no matter how small. I just need to give the fans what they need!
