Pelumi, better known by his stage name Saezn, is not just another emerging name on Nigeria’s Afro-RnB scene — he’s a sound in motion. At just 26, he describes his music as beautiful, boundless, and deeply rooted in emotion. “I pretty much make beautiful music,” he says with quiet confidence. “I love exploring sounds, blending genres, and letting inspiration take the lead.

Born and raised in a music-loving Nigerian household, Saezn’s earliest memories of music are tied to church. Like many African artists before him, the church was where his voice found space to grow. “That’s where it all started,” he reflects. “Singing in the choir gave me discipline. It made me love live sound, harmony, and feeling.

But the music wasn’t the only thing that evolved — his name did too. Originally performing under a different moniker, Saezn felt the need for reinvention. “I wanted something symbolic,” he explains. “Something that spoke to growth and transformation. The name Saezn came from ‘season’ — that idea that everything comes in cycles, that change is necessary. It just felt like something I could wear and grow into.

And grow he has. With a sound he defines as Afro-R&B — rich in rhythm, yet fluid and experimental — Saezn resists being boxed in. His music is rooted in R&B’s softness, but layered with Afrobeat energy, soulful melodies, and hints of reggae, highlife, and alternative. “I love R&B, but I’m not confined to it. I enjoy moving across genres. My music reflects how I feel, and I don’t want to limit that.

While he draws from many sonic influences, his own life is a key muse. His signature romantic and sensual tone often leaves listeners wondering whether his lyrics are based on real experiences. “It’s a combination,” he says. “Some songs come from what I’ve been through. Others are inspired by books, films, and people around me. I just let emotion guide the story — it doesn’t always have to be mine.

His recent single Break It Down is steadily gaining national attention, and with two strong EPs already in his discography — Summer 24 and Escape to Paradise — Saezn is only just beginning to carve out his lane. While he remains tight-lipped about specific details, he promises more music on the horizon. “Very soon,” he hints with a knowing smile. “There’s a lot I’m working on behind the scenes. I’m excited for people to hear what’s coming.

Beyond the studio, Saezn has a deep love for sports, particularly football. “If I wasn’t making music, I’d definitely be doing something in sports,” he says. “I’ve always loved the game. We didn’t grow up thinking sports was a real career path, but it’s something I’ve always been passionate about.

When asked about dream collaborations, Saezn doesn’t hesitate: “Ayra Starr, Tems, and so many amazing Nigerian artists. There’s a lot of talent in this country. I’d love to collaborate with people who share the same passion for emotion and story in music.

As he continues to build momentum, Saezn remains grounded in faith and persistence. “It’s all about consistency,” he says. “If you keep doing what you’re doing and stay true to the vision, everything will align. When God says it’s time, it’s time.
