49th Interview With Leogbola

Tell us a bit about yourself? Without the music, who are you really? Can you tell us who Leogbola is?

Leo Gbola is an easygoing, ambitious, Artistic, and Spiritual person

Who were your music influences growing up?

My music influences growing up were (because I used to be a choreographer)  usher, P square,

Bob Marley, lucky dube, Kwam 1,  Lighthouse family and many other Old school musicians.

When did you decide to kick-start this journey?

I have been singing way back my days at Lagos State Polytechnic; I would perform at departmental shows and all that. However, professionally I started singing in 2018 when my friend who is now my manager WALECHASIS reached out to me on one of the music he had seen me post, he said we could monetize my music rather than just posting it on Instagram. Since then, we have been at it.

Can you kindly introduce Leogbola to us?

LEO- GBOLA; Leonard is my middle name and ofccourse my birthday is August 14th which practically makes me a Leo as well and Gbola is extracted from my actual name GBOLAHAN. The first 5 letters.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by several things. I am mostly inspired by nature, Past experiences, Other people’s experiences, Fiction, Imagination and sometimes conversations.

Growing up in Agege, do you think it has an influence on your music so far?

Agege is the hood and survival in the ghetto can be tough, you have to be brave and strong to live in that kinda place; it practically eliminates the weakness in you. So if I am making music about ghetto and survival, it usually resonates.

You just dropped a new project, what inspired it?

My new project titled, AFRO GIMMIX is an EP embedded with series of emotions through music. I can’t pin point one thing as its inspiration, however, Afro Gimmix is a term I created for my style of music which has to do with talking about real life situations in the most captivating way.

Waiting for your love, what was going on in your head when you made the record?

Waiting for your love was inspired by a friend of mine who was dating a lady whom he loved so much but she wouldn’t carry on with a relationship with him because even tho she was in love, she wasn’t  really sure if she was the one she wanted. She loved the sex and intimacy but my friend wanted love and affection. However, she would always come back to him.

What impact do you hope to make with your music?

My hope is for people to feel what I feel when I make music, impact lives positively, I am doing well without music so I’m not really into it for money, it’s a passion that I’m addicted to.

Any words for your fans and people who have been showing support?

Let’s not lie I don’t be having a fan base like that lol, I am still growing. But for the people who have been showing me support, I appreciate you; especially my very few friends and of course my manager. God bless you and I love you all.

Anyone you’d love to collaborate with in the industry?

I would love to collaborate with Psquare, as they inspired me a lot, with Oxlade, i like his falsettos, with Fireboy, he’s got the most solemn, captivating voice.

How has the reception been for your music?

To be honest, the reception has been quite overwhelming and unbelievable and I’m excited to see how things unfold in the nearest future.
