As we anticipate one of the biggest album releases of 2024, Wizkid’s sixth album, Morayo, let’s take a look at some things to look forward to on the project ahead of its release tonight.
A Song Dedicated to His Mom
Wizkid has always hailed his mother in his songs, from the ‘Pakurumo’ track off his debut album Superstar to ‘Mummy Mi’ and ‘Jaiye Jaiye’ off his Ayo album. It would not come as a surprise if there were a song or two dedicated to the life and memory of his mother, whose name is already the album’s title (Morayo). This would come as a show of love and appreciation for her good life.
A fusion of styles
Wizkid has already clarified that we should not expect a full Afrobeats album from this body of work (Morayo). This is evident from one of the lead singles, ‘Piece of My Heart’ with Brent Faiyaz, a contemporary R&B song mixed with Afrobeats elements. Last week, ‘Kese (Dance)’ was also released as the second official single from the album, which is purely an Afrobeats sound, with Nigerian instrument Gangan (Talking Drum) all around the song atmosphere. This suggests the album (Morayo) will be a fusion body of work from Wizkid.
A Possible Video Directed by Gabriel Moses
His collaboration with talented photographer and video director Gabriel Moses for the ‘Kese (Dance)’ cover photo, tracklist announcement photo cover, and official album trailer video, not to mention seeing a glimpse of them together in late July 2024, suggests that Gabriel Moses directing a video for one of the tracks from the Morayo album is 80% possible. We look forward to seeing what the masterpiece would look like between these two geniuses.
Multiple Hit Songs
After getting two smash hit singles from the album, ‘Piece of My Heart’ and ‘Kese (Dance),’ which broke Spotify’s first-day streaming record twice in Nigeria, we should brace ourselves for more ear candy on the full album.
Music for his next tour
During a question-and-answer session on Wizkid’s official X account, Wizkid confirmed plans for a tour following the release of his album, ‘Morayo’, potentially a world tour. So we are looking forward to live performances of songs from the album.
