Spotlight Monday – Solis4evr

by Reuben Adewale

One of the few players in Nigeria pushing the indie-soul genre is Solis4evr, her music combines striking elements of funk, pop, and soul with great storytelling lyrics that take you along as you listen. Her smooth vocals are a compliment to her sound and a perfect fit for the music genre, just like other artists across the globe popularizing the sound. Her music feels like an evergreen soundtrack to teenage love movies like the ones seen on Netflix, such as “To All The Boys I’ve Loved,” “Heartbreak High,” and many others. This is to say that Solis4evr’s music is the type of music that is made with feelings and emotions, with lyrics that listeners can actually relate to.

With her latest EP ‘Ghost Town’ Solis4evr did an amazing job in the kitchen with her super chef skills, making a delicious meal by mixing her recent heartbreak, which took her to a dark, cold monstrous place, with a light of hope. She presents something new to the Nigerian music scene. In the introductory track ‘Ghost Town,’ Solis4evr welcomes us with a sonic tune describing her encounter with her ex-lover who showed up unannounced, exactly like a ghost but in another flesh. She could feel the familiarity, but one could think this was her imagination with her being in a ghost town, just like the title of the track and the album itself.

The closing track ‘Global Strike’ is one of the perfect outros to a music project in 2024. The track somehow addresses the story in the first track with a mix of real-life issues of war between nations and destruction in complete brilliance. She blended the way she feels and her yearning for eternal bliss perfectly. She closes the EP not just with her personal encounter but also with the current state of the world, somehow speaking of Christ’s sacrifice for a world that faces destruction. Yet somehow, she is still hopeful and optimistic about her visions of freedom from different feelings, and she might run up the hill for bliss even if it means packing up her bags even with the weight of the world and going on a global strike; she won’t be allowed to be locked up in any form of prison.

GHOST TOWN’ EP is Solis4evr’s open letter to the world, sharing her heartbreak and perspectives on life.

Her sparkling contributions to albums like Cruel Santino’s ‘Subaru World: Final Heaven,’ Lady Donli’s ‘Enjoy Your Life’, Odunsi The Engine’s ‘Rare’ and ‘Ejoya Class of ‘22’ have solidified her place in Nigeria’s Alte mainstream community, having graced stages like Homecoming Festival and Lady Donli’s Wild Sessions, and touring with C Kay and Joeboy, Solis4evr’s stands out as a talented artist and creative force in Nigerian music.
