We have had his sound and vibe around us for a while now. From the viral “Ni Nigeria la wa” term flying around in 2023 to his verse on Smada’s “Ye Anthem,” Toyé has been well invested in the Afrobeats space.
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, with a Nigerian upbringing, it is no surprise that Toyé tapped into the sounds of Nigeria’s Afrobeats, Fuji, and Highlife, blended with his mixture of R&B. This fusion has helped shape his music style, essentially Afrofusion, which he uses to deliver hit songs such as “Ni Nigeria.”
Since his first single in 2018, “Shayo,” his music has been making waves in the US, solidifying him as one of the Afrobeats artists on the rise. He has gradually progressed to selling out shows and performing for audiences, and even co-writing a notable track on Davido’s third album, “A Better Time,” on the song “Shopping Spree.”
With all these milestones and achievements, Toyé is committed to crafting sounds reflecting his Nigerian heritage. This dedication is evident in his new project, “WAHALA IN PARADISE.” The project, which contains different themes from love and fun, showcases Toyé as a Faajipolitician, as the track “Faaji Jackson” says it all: romance. From the title alone, you know it’s something for the people. The tracks, instrumentals, and melodies are all a treat for the ears. The project stands as one of the standout bodies of work for the year 2024, and with this, we are looking forward to more tunes from Toyé.
