Rexxie Premieres 2025 With New Jeriq Collaboration

In the past five years since Rexxie surfaced on the Nigerian music scene, the super-producer has been a frontrunner in Afropop, courtesy of his ingenious brand of street-pop music. With production credits for Davido, Burna Boy, Naira Marley, Zlatan, Zinoleesky, and Mohbad, the producer (born Ezeh Chisom Faith) has helped to shape the direction of contemporary street-pop movement whilst putting his unique spin on the Afrobeats sound as a whole. Some of his biggest hit records have been timepieces on the evolution of Afropop with 2022’s “Abracadabra” being a big smash after its initial release with Skiibii and Naira Marley. A remix with Wizkid in early 2023, shot the song’s popularity to new horizons and established it as one of the year’s crowned jewels.

Since the release of Big Time, Rexxie has pushed his artistry even further, coming into his own as a revered DJ and music exec. In mid 2024, he signed a new act, AXAD. To kick off 2025 after a successful year, Rexxie hosted his first headline concert, Big Vybz Party in Lagos on the 4th of January with a roster of close friends in attendance. Stars like Naira Marley, Zinoleesky, Spyro, Bad Boy Timz and Shoday graced the sold-out event which transpired at the Mori Okunola Park on V.I.

It’s a precursor to his first track of the year, where Rexxie is teaming up with Onitsha-born rapper, Jeriq, for a new song titled, “CHISOM (WE DEM BOYS.)” Already regarded as one of the most important voices emerging in Eastern Nigeria, Jeriq has been on a prolific streak over the last two years and has featured in songs by a plethora of stars. On “CHISOM (We Dem Boyz)” heralds a return for the dignified producer, who puts his spin on the traditional sound.

Translated to English, “CHISOM (We Dem Boyz)” means “God is with me” and it’s an energy that Jeriq leans into across his verses, while Rexxie provides the melodic backdrop for his stellar showing. With “CHISOM (We Dem Boyz) Rexxie wholeheartedly embraces his culture—and future—with a declarative jam to kick off the year, as well as setting the tone for his third studio album slated for release in Q3 2025.

Speaking about the song, Rexxie says:

“It’s a pleasure to have this song with Jeriq. I think he’s one of the most talented artists we have right now in Nigeria and working with him was very nice. For me, this is a song about who I am, what I represent and my culture. I have always liked the Oja flute and being able to infuse it into my work was something that I enjoyed doing.”
