African player of the year Ademola Lookman has joined Victor Osimhen and Obafemi Martins at the top of an illustrious list of the highest-scoring UEFA Champions League campaigns by Nigerian players. Lookman was in exemplary form for Atalanta throughout their 2024/2025 UCL campaign before they crashed out at the hands of Club Brugge in the UCL Playoffs.
Lookman joined Martins and Osimhen at the top of the elite group following his heroics against Club Brugge in Atalanta’s midweek UCL fixture, netting a consolation goal, his fifth of their European campaign, in their 3-1 loss to the Belgian club. The winger had previously netted for Atalanta against SK Sturm Graz, Shakhtar Donetsk, VFB Stuttgart, and Real Madrid across the group stage fixtures. The winger made his first appearance for Atalanta since January as a substitute against Brugge, and he marked his return with a goal. His goal allowed him to replicate the efforts of Martins and Osimhen from the 2004/2005 and 2022/2023 seasons, respectively.
