Nigeria U-20 kicked off their 2025 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tunisia at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in Cairo.

A 38th-minute goal by Auwal Ibrahim, assisted by Odinaka Okoro, proved decisive in a tightly contested Group B clash. Nigeria dominated early proceedings and created several chances, but were met by a determined Tunisian defense.
Despite Tunisia’s second-half surge, including late attempts from Omar Ben Ali and Anis Doubal, the Flying Eagles’ defense held strong, anchored by Daniel Bameyi and Adamu Maigari. Goalkeeper Chijioke Anosike made a crucial stop in the 87th minute to preserve the lead.
The victory earns Nigeria three important points in a competitive group that also features Morocco and Kenya.
Nigeria now extends their unbeaten record in tournament openers to eight of their last ten appearances as they chase a record-extending eighth U-20 AFCON title.
