FESTAC ’77: Nigerian Historical Film to Preview at 2025 Cannes Film Festival

Nigerian historical drama FESTAC ’77 has been selected for an exclusive preview at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, marking a major milestone for Nollywood on the global stage.

The film, produced by Adonis Production and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, chronicles the legendary 1977 Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC), which brought together artists and performers from across Africa and the diaspora in Lagos. It captures the festival’s cultural significance and celebrates African unity through art, music, and storytelling.

Executive producers Prince Tonye Princewill and Adonijah Owiriwa praised the selection, noting it as a testament to the growing quality and global relevance of Nigerian cinema.

The preview screening will take place on May 19, 2025, at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. A wider theatrical release is expected later this year.
