CALVIN BASSEY WINS FULHAM’S 2024/2025 PLAYER OF THE SEASON AWARD

Super Eagles Defender Calvin Bassey has clinched Fulham’s Player of the Season award, becoming the first Nigerian and African player in history to win the prestigious award. The award comes after a remarkable 2024/2025 season with The Cottagers. With a string of dominant performances at the heart of the defense, he led them to an eleventh-placed league finish.

The Nigerian center-back received the highest number of votes among the shortlisted players from fans, 39.6%, pipping compatriot Alex Iwobi, Antonee Robinson, Bernd Leno, and Saša Lukić to the award. An unshakeable rock in Fulham’s backline, he helped the West London Club to five clean sheets, averaging 0.6 interceptions, 1.5 tackles, 4.8 ball recoveries, and 3.2 clearances per game. He featured in 35 Premier League games out of a possible 38, a massive increase from the previous season, and netted one vital goal. With last-ditch tackles, goal-saving blocks, and quick turnovers, he was always there for Fulham.

Reliable and consistent, Calvin Bassey established himself as a mainstay in the starting XI, firmly silencing his doubters and critics. Bassey expressed his delight and gratitude for the award, indicating his strong desire to achieve bigger things with the West London outfit.
