A review of Sensual EP by AndreMussic & Boluhwtf

On the 4th of November, “Sensual,” a 3-track EP, was released on all digital streaming
platforms. The brief body of work was the brainchild of AndreMussic and Boluhwtf, two
very talented artists. For the uninitiated, AndreMussic is an exciting singer and
songwriter who has amassed thousands of streams with two previous projects and a
few singles. He has been on something of a hiatus, though, with only one single
released since 2020. On the other hand, Boluhwtf specializes in the finer arts of music
production, sound engineering, and songwriting. However, he has been dabbling in the
role of a recording artiste, and he fully reveals that side of himself on this brand-new EP.

“Sensual” is a project that explores love and lust from the perspective of two Lagos
boys. It’s a trilogy of real-life experiences that the duo has been working on since the
pandemic, and this EP served as an outlet to tell those stories. It starts off with
“Sensual,” and both artists make no attempts to hide their lustful intentions. They trade
verses on which they promise to deliver a sensual and extraterrestrial experience
between the sheets. That track is followed up by “Tonight,” which is essentially a
reiteration of the same message of sexual prowess. “Jaga Jaga,” the third track, takes a
detour from sensuality by exploring heartbreak and emotional exhaustion. Both singers
politely ask for space from the women that broke their hearts.

The production work on this “Sensual” EP is classy stuff. Boluhwtf convinces beyond
doubt that he understands what it means to produce catchy beats for songs in the
Afrosoul genre. As for the songwriting, it conveys the message from the mind of the two
artists well enough, and we see multiple flashes of lyrical excellence. Although there is a
little friction in the verses exchanged on “Jaga Jaga” – both artists seem to have
different interpretations of the track – but not enough to detract from the overall quality of
the track. However, the songwriting and melodies used on the hooks should have
perhaps gone in a different direction. While simplicity does the trick more often than not,
the wordings of the hook are perhaps a little too repetitive and would have been before
off with more variation. The criticism applies more to the titular track, where the hook
consists of repetitions of the words sensual and terrestrial. The hooks of “Jaga Jaga”
and “Tonight” offer more variation in the songwriting, but then the melodies feel like they
need something extra to make them unforgettable.

Standout track: Jaga Jaga

All in all, “Sensual” is a project with a decent replay value. AndreMussic and Boluhwtf
make a good duo and largely flow into each other seamlessly on the three tracks. Its
strengths lie in relatable songwriting and quality production, and they go a long way in
covering up for the few weaknesses.

Verdict: 7/10

The Architect of the New Wave: Kblacktheblack’s Rise and Sonic Evolution In the rapidly expanding universe of Nigerian music, Iborn Ogbuluijah Kenneth Nsan is carving out a distinct lane for himself. Known professionally as Kblacktheblack—or simply SBB to his growing fanbase—he represents the new vanguard of hip-hop artists who are reshaping the sonic landscape of the continent. He is not merely a rapper; he is a curator of culture, blending the rhythmic heartbeat of his city with a contemporary vision that aims to influence African pop culture through music, fashion, and creative direction. His goal is ambitious yet clear: to leave a lasting impact on the cultural landscape and shape the narrative for the next generation of creatives. At the core of Kblacktheblack’s artistry lies a firm commitment to three values: respect, authenticity, and creativity. His discography, which already boasts two EPs and a slew of charting singles, serves as a mirror to society. He specializes in weaving infectious rhythms with lyrics that cut deep into personal experiences and the daily societal bustle. This dedication to his craft has earned him recognition on DSP charts and placements on international editorial playlists, proving that his sound resonates far beyond his immediate community. What truly sets him apart, however, is the holistic "SBB experience." He is celebrated for an electrifying stage presence that transforms every performance into a memorable event, coupled with a penchant for out-of-the-box lyricism and innovative production that consistently defies standard genre constraints. This versatility is currently on full display through his two latest releases, which highlight the duality of his sound. His newest anthem, "Hustler," featuring Hollerdotun, captures the gritty essence of ambition. The track serves as a soundtrack for the relentless go-getters, a theme visually underscored by its striking cover art featuring a stack of cash balanced precariously on the head—a metaphor for the heavy lifting required in the pursuit of success. It is a raw, energetic offering that speaks directly to the reality of the street hustle and the determination required to thrive. On the other end of the spectrum is the double-release "Impatient/Garage Refix," which dropped on November 20th. Including the tracks "Impatient" and "Impatient II," this project showcases a more introspective and experimental side of the artist. The visual direction suggests a moody, emotive narrative, while the "Garage Refix" inclusion hints at a fusion of his signature flow with fast-paced, electronic-influenced percussion. By seamlessly navigating between the hard-hitting bars of "Hustler" and the experimental textures of "Impatient," Kblacktheblack proves he is a musical shapeshifter, positioning himself as a pivotal figure who is not just participating in the culture, but actively defining its future.
