Godson Chukwuneku Okonye, better known as “GCN” or “Lekwa,” has released his highly anticipated sophomore album titled “SOV which means Sounds Of Victory.” The album features 18 tracks with collaborations from some of the finest talents in Africa and beyond, including, Hemina Shah, Ozedikus, Raybekah, Yungsam, a4j and many more.
GCN, who doubles as a music producer, has been in the music industry for more than six years and has endeared himself to fans all over the world with his unique blend of Afrobeat and Hindi music. He draws inspiration from legendary artists like Lucky Dube, Bob Marley, Culture, and Sean Paul, which is evident in his music.
In 2022, GCN made history by collaborating with British Indian singer Hemina Shah to create the first-ever Hindi Afrobeat song titled “Temperature.” The track was released worldwide on February 24th as part of GCN’s EP titled “Glossolalia,” which means “mother-tongue.” GCN and Hemina Shah were featured on BBC World News and Nigeria’s Channels Television to discuss the launch of the world’s first Hindi-Afrobeat song.
Before the release of his sophomore album, GCN had previously released two EPs – “Pain and Pleasure” and “Glosos.” The lead single from the “Pain and Pleasure” EP, titled “Penetration,” has garnered over 10 million views within two years of release. The “Glosos” EP featured the track “Temperature” with Hemina Shah, which helped to create the Afrohindi genre. The acceptance of “Temperature” led to the release of GCN’s latest offering, “Ileke,” which is gaining fast acceptance worldwide.
GCN is well known for his slogan “Lekwa,” which he infuses into the melody of his songs from time to time. With the release of “SOV: Sounds Of Victory,” GCN is poised to take the music industry by storm once again and cement his place as one of Africa’s most talented and versatile artistes.
