Aisosa Lays A Claim To Being The Fresh Prince of Nigerian RnB with “Abeg”

49th

On his sophomore single Abeg, Aisosa lays a claim to being the Fresh Prince of Nigerian RnB.

The current Nigerian RnB space is shaping up nicely and it could well become a golden age for the genre. With artistes like Chike, Johnny Drille and Ric Hassani already household names; Aisosa is the next in line to make the ladies swoon with his tenor vocals.

After announcing himself to the world with his debut single, All Time Low, Aisosa flexes his growth and lyrical prowess on Abeg. Produced by Davincii, the song has three qualities that every great RnB record possesses. Heartfelt lyrics that tug at your heart, beautiful melody that you are sure to sing along to, and the voice of a hopeless romantic bringing it all together.

The cover of the song shows Aisosa at the beach, staring into the distance. This sets the tone for the song, as Aisosa is in a mood of despair. Rendered in English and pidgin English and Yoruba, Abeg is a song that every heartbroken person can relate to. “Cause every time that I call, she don’t pick up. She don’t even speak for a minute and hang up” is as relatable as it gets. Aisosa is a full loverboy that does not hesitate to show his vulnerability, as he sings “I wish we could just meet, kiss and make up. Or that I could take back every word that I threw up” The chorus is the sweetest part of the song, and you can be sure to hear yourself crooning “Abeg o, abeg. Has anyone seen my baby, abeg?

Abeg is an impressive song about heartbreak, one that is reminiscent of Asa’s Baby Gone off the Beautiful Imperfection album. Aisosa seems to be tapping more into the impressive depth of his artistry. Abeg is a sign of things to come from Aisosa, and the Fresh Prince of Nigerian RnB is here to stay.
