After multiple teasers, the group of friends known as The Geng has finally released their TV series, titled ALL of US, officially on YouTube.
The series, created by Eni Adeoluwa, features a lead cast consisting of Eni Adeoluwa, Priscilla Ojo, Eronini Osinachim, Jemima Osunde, Tobe Ugeh, Tomi Ojo, Angel Unigwe, Jerry Chuks, Chioma Akpotha, and Saga Deolu, with frequent appearances from Iyabo Ojo, Lilian Esoro, Femi Durojaye, and Yomi Solade.
The plot revolves around a class of SS3 students of Cityview School, who find themselves in a serious predicament that binds them together. The show delves into the ways in which these teenagers navigate their situation.
With Nollywood series increasingly focusing on the high school experiences of Nigerian teenagers, this series joins the list with a compelling storyline and a talented cast that brings the experience to life. Isaac’s (Eni Adeoluwa) natural energy as the ‘I too sabi’ student and teacher’s pet, Ahmad (Tobe Ugeh), the favorite rich kid in the class, Layla (Tomi Ojo), the one with secrets, and other characters, bring depth to the narrative.
There are also characters that we didn’t get to see more of in the series, most notably Efe (Jerry Chuks). He is one we look forward to seeing more development from as the series progresses. However, the synergy among the cast is intact, reflecting a real-life Nigerian school classmate relationship.
The directors of the series, Orire Nwani, and Oluchi Nsofor, impressively guide the natural and visually pleasing production. The post-production team did a commendable job, especially with the clear and smooth sound. However, some scenes had lighting issues that affected the final product, as one could see the lighting shift in some scenes. Apart from that, all other cinematographic shots and techniques were executed perfectly.
The movie score is also impressive, with a selection of songs that introduce viewers to emerging Afrobeats sounds, like Folake by Taves, who also makes a cameo in episode 1, Treat You Better by Progress Nwachukwu Chukwuyem & Faith Afiemo, Come Away by Marz, Gotcha by Døpë, and more.
Overall, the quality of this series is impressive. The storyline is quite familiar for a teenage high school series, but the plot twist in the last episode keeps the audience on their toes, wondering what will happen next.
While the series is entertaining, it could also benefit from exploring new aspects of a Nigerian high school experience. The cast’s performance was balanced, but the story was somewhat predictable. Moving forward, the series needs to include more relatable school factors for Nigerian relatability.
ALL of US meets the expectations of viewers who love high school-themed shows. With the first four episodes of the first season garnering over 7.9 million views in the first week, there are high expectations for the next season.
The TV series rates 3.5 out of 5.
