On the 28th of July 2023, the Headies welcomed distinguished guests which included artistes, music executives, government officials, and media houses to a pre-event reception hosted by the U.S Consul General, Mr Will Steven, in his ikoyi residence in Nigeria.

Hundreds of african music enthusiasts gathered to dine, on a night that celebrated the afrobeats culture in its excellence. The event started by 7:00pm, as creatives all over the nation were treated to an elegant night with much to eat, drink and chat about.

Esteemed guests such as the Consul himself, secretary of the Lagos government, Mr Abimbola, and the executive producer of the Headies award, Mr Ayo Animashaun, took turns in expressing the growth of Afrobeats in diaspora, and the need to keep the fire burning from within, by our continuous support of creatives.

Mr Will emphasized the dominance of afro beats in the U.S and beyond, as expressed in last years Headies event which was hosted in Atlanta, U.S. He also reaffirmed continued sustenance from his end as an ambassador, as afrobeats continues to grow.
We should also expect the same energy from the Lagos government, as Mr Abimbola, describing afrobeats as ‘Nigerias biggest ambassador’, reiterated the continuous support from the Lagos government.

Special performances took place from artistes Guchi, Kcee, Hotkid and Eltee Skhilz. Other dignitaries/socialites in attendance include EMoney, Obi Cubana, Abike Dabiri amongst others.
