Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr has made history as her album The Year I Turned 21 officially surpassed 1 billion Spotify streams, marking a major milestone for Afrobeats and African female artists.

Released on May 31, 2024, under Mavin Records, the album broke records with 6.3 million streams on its first day, and has steadily gained momentum thanks to standout collaborations with Asake, Giveon, and Coco Jones. It’s now the first Nigerian female-led project to reach the billion-stream mark on the platform.

Ayra Starr’s success reflects her rising global influence, as she also recently became the first Nigerian female artist to hit 20 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

With more music and an international tour on the horizon, Ayra Starr continues to redefine the global sound of Afrobeats and set new records for African women in music.
