The journey to stardom starts with a song and for Champace “Qui Novis”, released on the 23rd of December, is the first step in his journey. He worked closely with maverick producer WalahiSteph to create this solid track clocking in at a little over 3 mins.

The title is a Latin phrase which translates to “The New” in English. The song starts off as a trippy and intentional ballad, the sounds of the instrumental and the artiste’s voice drawing you in slowly. Though the song title is vague and gives little away, the direction becomes clearer when the first bar of lyrics rolls in. “She’s the flyest one on the radar, you have to keep her close…she’s priceless, she’s amazing…” Champace sings. The chorus and verses go on to describe a special woman deserving of love and attention. The lyrics are brilliant and speak of an artiste with proper pen game; intelligent metaphors are used in his description all through as opposed to the banal wordings we are usually treated to and he manages to make an entire love song without actually professing love at any point. But even if you’re not the type to pay close attention to lyrics, the melody and flow employed in the singing are sure to keep you listening attentively.

The production is of excellent quality but that is no surprise. After all, WalahiSteph was the man responsible for L’enu & Spiritual, two of Buju’s more popular songs. The instrumental draws you in and the mixing and mastering are top notch.

Word on the street is Champace has an EP lined up for the second quarter of this year and “Qui Novis” is just the tip of the iceberg of what Champace and WalahiSteph have in store for us. That is a something to be excited about because as far as debut singles go, this one is pretty impressive and holds a lot of promise.
