Sony Music West Africa has appointed Christel Kayibi as its interim General Manager, marking a significant leadership transition for the company’s operations in the region.
Kayibi previously served as Director of Repertoire Strategy for Africa at Sony Music, where she played a crucial role in artist development, legal affairs, and strategic partnerships. One of her notable achievements was leading the label’s partnership with Crux Global, a Ghanaian-owned music company, to support local artists through distribution, full-service label support, and catalog management. This initiative reinforced Sony Music’s commitment to nurturing African talent and preserving cultural heritage.
Before joining Sony Music Africa, Kayibi held roles at Columbia Records UK as Senior Legal and Business Affairs Manager and A&R. She also served as global legal counsel for Nigerian artist Mr Eazi, contributing to the formation of his Banku Music label and emPawa Africa distribution platform.
Her appointment comes as Sony Music West Africa continues to grow its presence and influence across the continent. Under previous leadership, the label supported a number of leading Afrobeats artists and emerging voices in the region.
Kayibi’s broad expertise and strong industry background are expected to guide Sony Music West Africa into a new era of growth and innovation, further amplifying African music on the global stage.
