Cool8 releases ‘Joro’ off his Milky Way EP

As a socially conscious bop, Joro came at the exact time when Nigeria and Nigerians needed socially conscious and culturally sensitive musical projects that reflected a deep awareness of societal issues that affects the youths, especially since music is one of the major ways they express themselves. Joro is coming just shortly after what seemed like the end of the #Endsars protests—a decentralized social movement spearheaded by the Nigerian youths, which clamors for the end of police brutality and bad governance in the country.

Imaku Toritseju, popularly known as cool8, has released this hit single off his 3rd EP called “Milky way”. The single “Joro” highlights some of the many problems the Nigerian populace face just by existing as citizens and hopes to shed more light on the general decline of the country and its affairs.

“Bloodshot anytime wey you watch the news, gunshot, dem police dema kill the youth!” are some of the lyrics cool8 used to express his distress at the alarming lawlessness and senseless killings perpetrated by the Nigerian police in Nigeria. The opening verse, with its jumpy beats and melody, is aimed at warming up the blood in preparation for a song that unfolds as a revolutionary anthem.

Cool8 uses his craft to shed light on recent events in the country and how the youths now have to turn to social media for security, accurate information and general wellbeing. He expresses his worry at this dysfunctional system when he asks, “Na social media go solve all the shit from time?”

Cool8 has released 5 singles and 2 Ep’s prior to this epic tune, which were produced, mix and mastered by 1MPVLS3 (pronounced impulse) beats. Joro is the forerunner of Cool8’s much anticipated Ep, Milky Way.
