What is BLACK SANKOFA (BLKSNKFA)?

BLKSNFKA: BLKSNKFA (Black Sankofa) is a multimedia company my brother (tmdmrv) and I founded in 2020. It’s a hub for all things pop culture. Under BLKSNKFA, I run Sankofa Films (SNKFILMS), a platform focused on film and photography. BLKSNKFA also handles creative direction and editorial production.

You worked with OluwaMillar as the creative director of his debut EP. What was it like working with him on that?

BLKSNKFA: Working with Millar was an incredible experience! We’d known each other for a couple of years but finally met in person last year. He came through with his manager, shared the “Agbalagbi” project, and ideas started flowing. After bouncing around a few concepts, we landed on something special. Millar then offered me the opportunity to creatively direct the project, which was amazing-especially since I got to collaborate with my friends.

What other artistes have you worked with?

BLKSNKFA: I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with talented artists like Mo’gunz, Igho Mike, Mxps Rellington, and VRSD. Additionally, I’ve worked behind the scenes (BTS) on projects with notable acts like Blaqbonez, Ladi Poe, Shallipopi, Dotti the Deity, and brands like Ashluxe, Minx, and MoStudeo.

Let’s talk about your street photography; what is the inspiration behind it?

BLKSNKFA: Art was my passion growing up—painting, sculpture, and tie-dye. However, when I gained admission, creativity took a backseat. Street photography reignited that spark, allowing me to capture moments, preserve culture, and keep history alive. I approach this craft seriously, knowing my photos will outlive me—that’s priceless.

Are there any challenges you’ve faced doing street photography?

BLKSNKFA: I had a funny encounter with the Nigerian police last year. My colleague and I were arrested and detained for taking pictures. It was a crazy experience—the wildest one so far. Nigerians are angry people, but as a street boy, I’m used to navigating tough situations with a smile and conversation.

Tell us about working with Ashluxe.

BLKSNKFA: I’m grateful to my brother, Victor Eddeh, for hiring me as his assistant on that project. His kindness and support mean everything. Shoutout to VED!

What artiste would you like to work with?

BLKSNKFA: I’m honestly excited to work with everyone. There’s so much incredible talent out here, and I’m open to working with anyone who is passionate about bringing ideas to life. As long as our visions align, let’s do it.

What fashion brand would you like to work with?

BLKSNKFA: As I said, I’m open to working with everyone—established fashion brands and budding fashion brands. Bring it on!

Are there any upcoming collaborations you want to tell us about?

BLKSNKFA: I’ve got a lot in the works, including personal projects and collaborations. Watch this space.

What are the plans for 2025?

BLKSNKFA: I look forward to more visibility and growth in my craft! I’ve got some exciting projects lined up, including a photobook and a short film later this year. Fingers crossed and God willing!
