DARKNESS – ADEYEMI PRECIOUS

Hello Darkness my old friend,

I came to talk about the old days

When you sneaked on me with pretence

And made me look at the world with disdain

You told me light was fire that I could be hurt by it

So I hid in Night, scared but I bore with it.

I was tired, I wanted out

But you said wanting out meant chasing clout

I cried, I bled, I was frustrated!

You sighed, You vexed but you were motivated.

Then one day when you were out of sight,

Wandering away in the depths of the dark,

I found Courage and he took me to Light!

Oh! He was beautiful, adorned in sparks!

I touched him, Alas! he wasn’t hot like Fire!

He was Life, he was Kind, he was Bright!

Hello Darkness my old friend,

I found the truth in the end

The truth that you had your share of the world

But no, you wanted it all!
