In an industry crowded with many categories of key players, the art of DJing is perhaps one that isn’t given enough attention. And yet it is a critical part of music because is it possible to have a proper turn up in the absence of a lit DJ mix to set the mood? I don’t think so. So the question becomes “how do you set yourself apart in what is already an underrated field?” DJ Emeezy’s latest video mix may very well be the answer to that tough question.
Duly titled “EARGASMS”, DJ Emeezy’s video mix features an elegant showcase of what top-notch DJing should look like. The talented and fast emerging DJ hailing from Akwa-Ibom delivers a trendsetting performance in his 7-minute long mix of Afrobeats and trap music hits in a seamless and energetic manner.
A quality DJ mix is never as simple as playing one hit song after the other, no. Many elements are required to get it just right and DJ Emeezy scores very high marks on almost every count. Of high importance is the set direction and this one features “The Wave” type of energy diagram with a series of peaks and valleys where you bring the listener up and down throughout the course of the mix. His excellent track ordering helps him achieve this while keeping the basal energy level high enough that there is never a dull moment in the mix. Track selection is another important aspect in a good mix and the songs used here are sure to appeal to the mainstream audience. Recent hits, such as Fireboy and Wande Coal’s “Spell”, and oldies like Dr Sid’s “Over The Moon” feature amongst the tracks used. There is even a surprising yet fitting inclusion of the Ben 10 theme song towards the end of the mix. Transition is perhaps the aspect that matters most and DJ Emeezy gets an A+ in this regard. His beatmatching is on point and he gives ample time between songs as opposed to rushing from one to another as most DJs tend to do. His mix stays in key and his looping, filters, EQing, and effects all blend together nicely without compromising the energy of the mix at any interval.
The visuals accompanying the mix are high quality and heavily feature DJ Emeezy’s presence as well as high octane dancing amidst other video cuts. It’s interesting to watch and complements the audio well enough.
