Tunisia entered the tournament as two-time defending champions, having won the 2017 and 2021 editions, and will be a formidable opponent for Nigeria in the group stage. The North African side boasts three AfroBasket titles overall and knocked out Nigeria in the 2017 final, underscoring their pedigree and experience on the continental stage.

Cameroon, who finished as runners-up in 2007, bring considerable talent to Group B and Madagascar, making only their fourth AfroBasket appearance, will look to build on their best-ever ninth-place finish from the inaugural 1972 tournament.

Across the four groups, the top two teams from each will advance to the quarter-finals, setting the stage for potential heavyweight clashes in the knockout phase. Angola, hosting the tournament for the fourth time, headlines Group C alongside South Sudan, Guinea, and Libya, while Group A features Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Cape Verde, and Rwanda. Group D pits Senegal, Mali, Egypt, and Uganda against one another .

The D’Tigers’ campaign will begin on August 12 against Madagascar, followed by back-to-back tests against Tunisia and Cameroon. Nigerian fans will be hoping for a confident start to revive memories of their 2015 triumph and to propel the squad deep into the tournament.
