Egypt to Host 2025 U-20 AFCON After Côte d’Ivoire Withdrawal

In an unexpected turn of events, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially awarded Egypt the hosting rights for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This decision comes in the wake of Côte d’Ivoire’s unexpected withdrawal due to unforeseen circumstances.

Originally slated to take place in Côte d’Ivoire, the tournament faced uncertainty when the West African nation announced its inability to host just a month before kickoff. In response, Egypt, having previously expressed interest in organizing the event, was selected by CAF to step in as the new host nation.

The U-20 AFCON is scheduled to commence on April 27, 2025, with the final match set for May 18, 2025. The tournament will feature 12 teams competing for continental glory and four qualification spots for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.

Egypt’s rich history of hosting major football tournaments, including the 2023 edition of this tournament, positions it well to deliver a successful 2025 U-20 AFCON. The Egyptian Football Association, supported by the government, has assured CAF of its readiness to provide world-class facilities and security for the participating teams and fans.
