Fave talks about the women in her life and why women’s history month is a beautiful thing

49th

49th Street: What does Women’s History Month mean to you?

Fave: Inculcating women’s history month into our calendar is such a beautiful thing because of what it represents and how important it is that we recognize it. Beautiful because we choose to highlight the ground-breaking accomplishments of women that were accorded lesser rights in times past. It’s a month of encouragement to me. I’m a woman and I hold greatness to ransom.

49th Street: Navigating the industry, is there any time you have felt that being a woman put you at a disadvantage? Could you give an example of one of such times?

Fave: Yes. Amongst many obvious & quite sad  challenges in the past few years in the industry that women have faced (you should also know it’s not just the music industry), the idea that the very few women who eventually make the cut  (a relatively terrible ratio at that) need to be constantly compared and boxed into this abstract “one female star” spot, meanwhile the men are given their respective titles and accorded as many spots as they come.

49th Street: Is there a time you have felt that being a woman gave you an advantage? Can you give an example of such a time?

Fave: A couple that I can’t recount right now but when I dominate, that would be an advantage for real hahahahahaha

49th Street: Mention some of the females who have inspired you to be where you are right now? Fictional or not?

Fave: My Mum and for a lot of reasons, Annalise Keating. And any woman who’s made her way to success through talent and hard work. Fuels me up everytime.

49th Street: Do you feel the female gender is underrepresented in your field?

Fave: Yes

49th Street: If you give any advice to a little girl who wants to be where you are right now, what would you say?

Fave: Well I’m a girl who’s still in the university with years to go before graduating, chasing a career in my music dream while my parents insist I focus on school. So if you’re in my position, that means you’re hanging on a thread of decisions and music is a forever yes for you. Keep your head high, pray, put in the work and as someone I look up to would fondly say; believe in yourself most importantly regardless of how slow the process. Don’t let anyone tell you can’t be great in a field where you find purpose and happiness.

49th Street: If you had to do it all over again as a woman, would you?

Fave: Haha what do you mean? Hell yes
