Favour Ofili to Represent Turkey After Nationality Switch

49th

Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili is set to compete for Turkey from May 31, 2025, after formally requesting a nationality switch through the Athletics Integrity Unit. The 22-year-old, known for her record-breaking performances and standout college career at LSU, has reportedly grown frustrated with the Nigerian athletics system.

Ofili’s decision follows multiple administrative issues, including her exclusion from the Paris 2024 Olympics 100m event despite meeting the qualification standard, and her earlier ineligibility for the Tokyo 2020 Games due to paperwork errors.

Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) President Tonobok Okowa says the body has not been officially notified of the switch, but described the reports as deeply concerning if true.

Her potential departure adds to the growing list of Nigerian athletes seeking new beginnings under different national flags due to governance concerns at home.
