Feyisayo Anjorin Hints at a More Socially Conscious Songwriting in 2025

Feyisayo Anjorin, a screenwriter, novelist, singer, and songwriter, reflects on his creative journey in 2024 as an indication of his evolving artistic direction for 2025 and beyond.

This year saw Anjorin producing some of his most meaningful work, including a novella, Love Lessons From The Life of A Hypocrite, and the song “There’s Somebody Here,” which he describes as closely linked to the novella’s themes.

Anjorin credits inspiration from musical legends like Orlando Owoh, Majek Fashek, and King Sunny Ade, whose storytelling approaches have influenced his own. He views the production of “There’s Somebody Here” as a pivotal moment that opened new possibilities in his songwriting.

Written and performed by Feyisayo Anjorin, with production by Olumuyiwa Lajide, the song was released on June 3, 2024. It explores themes of betrayal, greed, and moral complexity, drawing from Lauryn Hill’s Forgive Them Father and timeless narratives like the story of Judas.

Set against the backdrop of a society grappling with contradictions between outward piety and hidden corruption, the song reflects on how individuals can disguise self-serving motives in seemingly upright communities.
