FIVE THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE WIZKID’S CONCERT THIS DECEMBER

Currently, Wizkid is making history by turning the O2 into O3 on his current UK tour. We’ve had a lot of social media interaction on if many of Wizkid day-1 fans would show up, or if it’s just going to be packed with “Essence warriors” who barely know Wizkid hits of old. One thing is for sure however; there will be a dispensation of world class music, which portrays the excellence of Afrobeats.

This December, Wizkid is headlining a few shows in Lagos, including his own personal yearly music festival which couldn’t happen last year as a result of Covid 19. Here are some essential facts and necessities you might need to know before attending any of his concerts.

BRUSH UP ON YOUR OLD WIZKID

49th

If the reason you listen to Wizkid is because “time is of the essence” only, then you might be lost when his countless other hits start playing. Moreover, Essence is a smash hit so you won’t hear it till the ending parts of the concert. Therefore, go back to his old albums/EPs and relive some timeless jams, because as long as DJ Tunez is on deck, he will definitely spin some “Ojuelegba shitta, ask your sister, my music travel no visa …”.

GET READY TO BE BAPTISED

49th

As a Wizkid fan, you should be used to his “holy water” ritual at concerts, where he empties bottled water on his fans in the heat of the moment. It usually comes up when he performs ‘Soco’ so get ready, especially if you are close to the stage; you’ll definitely get wet.

FUTURE SPOUSE PROBABILITY

49th

Any live testifier from a Wizkid concert of old can categorically tell you that Machala pulls the baddest set of women (and men) to his concerts. Tall, short, slim, thick, big, black, white, Hispanic, rich, innit accent … you name it. They can all be found at the concert venues chanting Big Wiz classics, as the O2 experience has shown. So, if you are a single man/woman and searching, make sure you “baff up” when coming to any December concert to increase your chances of changing your status.

STAR-STUDDED? YOU BET

49th

As a superstar, Big Wiz always brings some of the biggest stars in Afrobeats and world music to perform at his concerts. It is almost a given that most of the artists who featured on his last album would be present to perform their features; Buju, Projexx, Tay Iwar, Tems and others. However, in addition to these stars, Wizkid loves to surprise us with A-list artists; mostly unexpected. This year at the O2, he brought out Giggs and Chris Brown, which brought the O2 to its knees. He has invited Skepta, BurnaBoy, Davido and other A-list artistes to his own concerts in the past to share his stage. Who will Big Wiz bring to Lagos for his StarboyFest? Only Jada can tell us; but she won’t, so we wait.

THE INEVITABLE FIGHT FOR HIS BELONGINGS

49th

Every single time Wizkid performs, he does usually throw some piece of belonging to the crowd. It could be his hand towel, his shirt, amongst other basic merch at his disposal. Every time, there is a great history of adult men and women physically fighting to be in possession of their idol’s piece, especially since Wizkid just touched it. One towel very recently was split into 4 places by 4 able bodied fanatics who were adamant to get, in Ella Mai’s words, a “Piece of me”. So, if you are strong minded like these people, it’ll be in your best interest to find your way to the front to increase your chances of latching onto any of his belongings.

In conclusion, it is necessary to stay safe during concerts in Lagos and go with someone or a group of people if possible. Your clothing items should be free enough for you to jump and express yourself as performances take place, without you being scared of it being ripped apart. One thing is a constant; the music is spiritual. Top echelon music to expect from Big Wiz and friends, so make sure you make videos and enjoy yourself because everyone wants to be there, but not everyone has #25,000 to drop.
