‘Ginius’ Presents Summer EP, How It Feels

The self-produced 6-track EP is the second tape to be released by ‘ginius’ after the success of her first strictly-amapiano EP, “Happy to Be Outside” in 2020. And how does “how it feels” vary? One word according to ginius is “versatility”. Hoping to be seen as more than just an amapiano artist, this project is a manifesto to the new and unique sound ‘ginius’ is exploring and has termed “afro blend”.

The lead single “Full Moon”, like the entire project, was produced from start to finish in just a week. With themes of love running throughout the project, ginius aims to convey to listeners feelings of platonic and romantic love that sustained her during that period. Inspired by her surroundings “Full Moon” was written when the singer literally stepped outside and saw a full moon which instantly helped her create the song’s lyrics.

Featuring Yung D3mz, Tori J And Freddie Gambini, ginius states the EP collaboration process was exciting. Working remotely with such rapidly rising talents due to the current pandemic, “How it Feels” was injected with the flavour of Afro fusion through these new age features . Initially the beat for “Make Me Feel” was produced with solely Yung D3mz in mind, however, Tori J, upon hearing the track set the tone for the song which was then made complete with a second verse from Yung D3mz.

Focusing on the versatility of the project, Ginius’ influences are not limited to strictly West African soundscapes, though we hear contemporary afrobeat influences across her catalogue. Pulling inspiration from the UK, US and Caribbean is an essential part of her personal music brand. With a real blend of sounds from amapiano to afrosoul, “How It Feels” has a track for everyone.
