Global Afrofusion Rising Star, Fave Unleashes Summer Anthem “CONTROLLA”

49th

There’s a new it-girl on the Afrobeats scene and she goes by the name, FAVE. Christened Godsfavour at birth, it’s only expected that greatness would accompany such name. She has now released a new song, “Controlla.” The uptempo, groovy record is the ideal song to soundtrack a memorable girls’ night out and also make a play for ‘Song of the summer’ status. “Controlla” dropped prior to the official visual release and kicked off FAVE’s 2024. The visuals came in the wake of the release of Afrobeats’ superstar, Davido’s ‘Kante’ music video that was recorded a while back but was released last week. In the weeks leading up to the visuals, FAVE joins Davido and made her debut at New York’s Maddison Square Garden to perform her verse on ‘Kente.’

Though FAVE is in the early days of her journey here, she’s upholding the standards for future exploits. In 2022, Fave was spotlighted as one of the BET x Nissan Afrobeats Up Next stars, Spotify’s’s Equal Africa ambassador for March, Apple music’s One To Watch’ and one of ten African artists on Audiomack. She was also highlighted that year by winning the prestigious ‘Rookie Of The Year at award shows. She has also given memorable guest performances like Olamide’s ‘Want ,”Pon Pon and Simi’s ‘Loyal. Her feature on Davido’s ‘Kante singles out like, Maddison Square Garden was also a success and it produced a hit moment.

The emerging songstress has proved her worth as an in-vogue collaborator verse on ‘Kante and in this next era, her flames will remain incensed and keep on burning.

About Fave:

From soul-baring lyrics to her hypnotic vocals, Fave’s minute-long Twitter videos took the Afrofusion community by storm in the early days of covid lockdown. A star was undeniably born. As a middle child and only daughter of the Chidozies—a small family of 5 who resided in eastern and southwestern Nigeria over the last two decades, her musical experience began at the church at the tender age of 6. Just before internet fame in 2020, Fave (coined from “Godsfavour”) was just a 19-year-old singer-songwriter pursuing a Law degree—belted with only one released single “M.O.M.M.S”. Fave would go on to release one of the biggest records of her career thus far, “Baby Riddim” in 2021. It eventually became the #1 song in Nigeria on Turntable Chart making it the second entry by a lead female artist to reach #1. Although her career has seen her dabble around genres including Dancehall, Afropop, Afrobeats, Dance, and R&B, Fave largely considers herself a “pop” girl. Her unique poetic approach to writing prioritizes vulnerability accompanied by vivid plots, conveying a whirlwind of emotions, often on groovy beat drops or high-tempo drum progressions. The soul-stirring songstress is just getting started as she begins her rise to the pinnacles of stardom.
