To celebrate women this year, the theme is #BreakTheBias. There are never too many days to celebrate women all around the world. Being the gender that has the highest incidence of gender based violence in the world, it is important to be a part of the change in these statistics and protect women in our lives. For today, we’re all about showing love to women.

Here are a few ways you can show your love to the beautiful women in your life:

Be decent to women around you:

Talk is cheap and it’s very easy to say you respect women when you’re in a discussion about gender rights. How do you actually treat women around you? Do you have assumptions about women and make conclusions from it? Having empathy is not restricted by gender and you should do the bare minimum by being decent to women.

Try listening:

Don’t be in a haste to make comments. Sometimes when a woman is speaking to you, she knows what she wants already and just wants to talk about it. You don’t have to say anything smart or give suggestions all the time. You’re not an idea generator, sometimes just listen.

You don’t have to be a superhero:

The idea of being a bad commando is fast becoming old news. You’re not Clark Kent, sometimes chill on the way you want to swoop in and save the day. Let women make mistakes without feeling less than you. Support is what matters.

Be sensitive:

Your hot takes and snarky comments are not as cool as you think they are. It might get you a few laughs in the moment but it’s not going to be all that great for you on the long run.

Celebrate women:

Of course, it’s a day to appreciate women and there’s no celebration without a gift. Just a thoughtful gift that goes on to say “I’m here for you, always” would go a long way to send the memo that you’re paying attention indeed.

The movement for female rights has had a lot of progress in the past few decades but there’s still a lot left to catch up on. Be a part of this change and stand by women in times of need and more than never before.
