Hyzah’s EP To The World is an ode to African culture

49th

Emerging Afrobeat artist Hyzah releases his hotly anticipated debut EP, To The World. With
contributions from producers Ogkn’Steaks and LeriQ (Burna Boy Wiz Kid).

Hyzah’s EP To The World is an ode to his African culture, allowing us to delve into his emotions with his undeniable Afro melodies paired with his distinct and silky vocals. The soulful but
unmistakably African project takes on a journey of free expression, love, admiration, and praise for
the African woman. With his evocative storytelling and supreme sonics, the EP highlights the very
best of Hyzah’s talents.

Speaking on the project Hyzah explains: “I feel so excited about this EP, and it a big blessing for me to drop this project. I’ve been waiting for this moment for over 2 years and the feelings is just different. I can’t wait to share this with my friends, family, and my die-hard fans.”
‘Skinny Love’ – an afro-infused RnB track that released in July – was the first single lifted from To The World, which firmly highlighted Hyzah’s vocal ability and crossover appeal. As he has steadily created his footprint within the Nigerian music scene, Hyzah is greatly inspired by Apala (Yoruba music that originated in the late 1930’s), Trap Soul and early 90’s Afrobeats, which is evident throughout the new EP.

Born and raised in inner-city Lagos, Hyzah is heavily influenced by the bright lights and dynamic
energy that reflects the pulse of city life. Growing up, he was faced with difficult prospects for
education, so resorted to a brief stint working as a cobbler to support his passion and journey in
music.

The 22-year-old first received global attention when a gritty freestyle video performed in the streets
of Lagos lead to write-ups in Complex US & HipHop DX and caught the eye of rap superstar Drake,
who gave him a follow-on Instagram after going viral with a remix of the original Lagos freestyle. Last year saw Hyzah receive a co-sign from Burna Boy, further highlighting his appeal.
Hyzah has received ongoing radio support in the UK and Nigeria with spins from DJ’s DJ Neptizzle
(Rinse FM), AfroB (Capital Xtra), Gracey Mae & Rod Rants (Westside Radio) and Fiifii (Soho Radio),
Beat FM and Cool FM, to name but a few.
