Praised as a Legend of Africa’s percussion-heavy Fuji music, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal known by the moniker, K1 De Ultimate has seen it all in his 50 years plus career, enjoying critical & commercial success home and abroad in a career span that has taken him from young upstart in 1970 to an African cultural authority. Armed with over 40 studio & live albums, K1 has taken the music from beyond the shores of Nigeria while deepening his link to the very lifeblood of Fuji due to his charisma and legendary stage presence. K1’s music has been interpolated and sampled by a plethora of African music heavyweights including rapper, Olamide.
A forward-thinking interpretation of Fuji music, Fuji the Sound E.P., K1 De Ultimate’s latest body of work, soon to be released, is a product of two years of tweaking and experimentation across languages and music forms set, ultimately, to the rhythmic drum-heavy pattern of puritan Fuji music. The modern spirit is reflected in the team of collaborators that the music icon assembles
including producer, Mystro, and singers, Teni and Toby Grey.
