MAWCOM X PARTNERS WITH KUVIE ON DEBUT PROJECT “GIFT OF GOD”

True to his name, Ghanaian born, widely travelled and successful creative; Mawcom X pushes through one of the toughest periods in his adult life so far with the passing of his mum to arrive at this very moment. With the help of producer and friend Kuvie, he channels his emotions into what has now become “Gift Of God”. The name is a triple entendre which implies that firstly; to be alive is a Gift Of God, secondly, our ability to create is a Gift Of God and finally Mawuli literally
translates into “God exists” so my existence is a Gift Of God to the world. The five tracked EP all produced by the superstar producer Kuvie (Sarkodie, Pappy Kojo, Joey B, Efya and more) consists of a smooth range of songs that ease you in from highlife infused hip-hop beats, hard-hitting rap bars, classic afrobeats and groovy melodies that give props to the recent Ghaianan sounds that have made their way across very many borders, spreading the palm wine music gospel.

A Track by Track walkthrough

Easing you into the listening journey, Mawcom X teams up with $pacely (who is featured on the chart-topping remix to Manu Worldstar’s Nalingi, also featuring Sjava and Roberto) and Iye on ‘Talk Talk’ for the first track, clean, purposeful and setting the tone that despite what people might say, he’s got his eye on the ball.

For the 2nd track, Mawcom X is in a prayerful mode as he turns his gaze upwards to Jah for guidance and direction. The track sits on a mellow hip-hop beat infused with coastal palm wine beats. Named after him, ‘Mawuli’ encapsulates the state he was in as he pushed through the pain to birth something beautiful from the hand he had been dealt.

Track 3 featuring Kirani AYAT respectively is a cool hip-hop joint that keeps the level of groove and message of the tape so far.

In the fourth track, Kuvie introduces a welcome reggae vibe to the production and La Meme Gang’s $pacely jumps on the record with Mawcom X and their message? Positive vibes only.

For the final track on this collection, Mawcom X enlists Nigerian born vocal genius Boj & Ghana’s $pacely for a more laid back afrobeats vibe on ‘Body’.
