Mila GxG: Pioneering Afro-Funk Futurism

Born into a world split between the vibrant rhythms of Nigeria and the eclectic vibes of the UK, Mila GxG, also known as Michael Babatunde Fagbamila, is the rising star of Independent Afrobeats. Influenced by legends like Fela Kuti, Asa, and Burnaboy, Mila GxG is forging a path that’s distinctly his own.

Mila’s love affair with music began at the tender age of 8 when he picked up the trumpet, soon followed by the French horn and euphonium. These early musical pursuits laid the foundation for his future as an Afrobeats artist. But his journey didn’t stop at playing instruments; at just 12, he started crafting his own melodies and hasn’t looked back since.

At 15, Mila GxG took a leap, moving to the UK, where his musical odyssey took an exciting turn. High school life in Manchester introduced him to the world of recording studios, where he learned to transform his lyrical visions into captivating songs.

However, Mila’s story isn’t limited to just two countries. With a life shaped by Nigeria, South Korea, and the UK, he’s curated a unique sound, a lifestyle soundtrack he calls ‘Afro-Funk Futurism’ from the GxG Universe 🪐👽.

Beyond brass instruments like the Trumpet, Euphonium, and French horn, Mila’s most potent tool is his voice. With it, he weaves emotions into instrumentals that seamlessly merge the infectious rhythms of Afrobeats with the pulsating energy of contemporary styles. The moment his music reaches your ears, you’re transported to a world of irresistible beats, sultry melodies, and an undeniable groove that moves your body and soul.

Mila GxG’s influences range from the contemporary dynamism of Burnaboy to the timeless legacy of Fela Kuti. His music is a rich tapestry, woven from diverse threads of sound.

But Mila isn’t just an artist; he’s a performer. After completing his studies in the UK, this 22-year-old dynamo embarked on a UK tour, showcasing his talents in London, Norwich, Birmingham, and more. His journey has been marked by support from BBC Introducing, GRM Daily, Audiomack Africa, and the illustrious Metropolis Studios, Europe’s largest mastering house.

In 2021, Mila GxG shared the stage with Grammy award-winning artist Tems at the Great Escape Festival, solidifying his presence among notable names in the industry. Mila GxG’s music is more than a sound; it’s a journey. It’s the convergence of cultures and experiences, a bridge between tradition and the future, and an invitation to join him in exploring the uncharted territories of Afro-Funk Futurism.
