Final Verdict
Where Hbee lacks in originality of lyrics more than makes up for with a sleek flow. It's obvious the man enjoyed himself in the studio while making this track and the energy he puts into it makes it an easy and enjoyable song for the listener. The production team complements his efforts nicely and all in all it's a good song.
Jackson Ekene Mba popularly known as HBEE is a Nigerian Afro-beat singer, songwriter. He is Also a versatile genre-splicing artist who weaves his deep knowledge of international vibe into a stunning musical tapestry which reveals new intricacies. He aims to hit the spotlight and the global music scene. With the release of his debut EP Wickedest Vibe earlier this year Hbee just showed why you should pay attention.
He Hbee blesses our ears with this groovy Afrobeat track he titles “Totori.”
The instrumental is super catchy and urges you to put on your dancings shoes from the very first second.
As you might expect from the title of the track, “Totori” is a love themed song in which Hbee seeks the attention of a love interest named Folake. The lyrics are the cliche wordings we’ve become accustomed in the Afrobeat genre which is probably the only downside to an otherwise nice track. “Me I go follow you anywhere you go…I want to die for you,” he promises on the first verse before diving into the hook. More profession of love follows before the hook closes out with a rather surprising turn: “You dey sweet me for body, you dey do me totori…pretty girl from Costa Rica.” I find this Costa Rica reference rather hilarious since he has already called a Nigerian name Folake on the same hook. But I guess he was too lost in the infectious vibe of the beat to care about the conflict in nationality, lol. The second verse proceeds in similar fashion before closing off with one more hook. The producer leaves us with a good 30 seconds of the instrumental to gbese to before the song rounds off at the 2:23 mark.
