New Music Friday: The Tolu Daniels Top 5 Pick

49th

Rema – Rave and Roses

Now this is a very interesting one. I hope I am not misunderstood here. Listen

I am so in love with the second half of this album, that it makes me ask why it wasn’t made the first half of the album. The second half of it is the strongest half. The first half has solid records there too, but way too many “fillers” in this half. I mean why not start out with the strongest part? See that “Addicted” record? Jesus, son of Mary! What a record! Oh my days! Lost my shit when it came on for the first time. Then it gets into “Are You There?” and I am sitting there wondering why the album did not start out with these. But there’s 10 very very solid songs on the project and that’s a very fine album for me.

MI Abaga – Daddy ft Chillz

Yea, rap’s daddy is back.

Did he really say “you hurting the environment, girl your waist (waste) is a problem”? Nah, that’s too hard, no way he’s allowed to do that. The flow on this is too heavy! And Chillz has got one of the best hip hop chorus game in the country! Absolutely love this record, such a feel good sound.

Fireboy DML – Playboy

He sounds like he’s so at home in this playboy personae. “So many hoes, dem ah think i’m a farmer”. Big contrast from the lover boy that gave us LTG, but the quality is ever present. When the snippet for this dropped, we could all tell he’s on to something with this song, this personae. That little “oof” thing on the chorus, absolutely love it. Solid banger, and I am loving the new DML

Bad Boy Timz – One In Town

For those that probably found Bad Boy Timz from songs like Skelele, Move, Have Fun, this person on this new song might sound alien. But not for the day one fans. 2019 Bad Boy Timz fans would absolutely be reeling over this one. Reminds me of “Complete Me”, “Folashade”, “Odo”, “Don’t Go”. It’s no surprise that he’s got Beats By Timmy to make this one too.

And it might be selfish, but I want him to explore this sound all over again, I want a run of songs like this, like the ones from “Timz” EP.

Larrylanes, Bella Shmurda – Jonzing

When the Larrylanes-produced Rush snippet hit the internet last year, it tore the airwaves. At that point, I knew that a perfect working chemistry was about to be birthed. I witnessed the both of them in the studio working one time and loved how they worked.

Huge fan of this record, it’s the Bella Shmurda you’d expect to hear. The production is insane, love when producers combine a number of instruments in one beat, beautifully. The log drums, the trumpets, the strings, love them.
