New Music Friday: The Tolu Daniels Top 5 Pick.

Frayz – Weak

Amazing debut, if you want to see it that way. This lad Frayz – who used to go as Ayo Folarin – has enormous talents on his shoulder. I have followed his developing journey for some time now and I can tell you that amazing things are about to follow from him. This “Davies The Rocket” produced record, Weak, is nothing like the title suggests, it’s a very solid joint. I am totally in love with the pre-hook and the hook. The texture of his voice is very intriguing. I have had this one on replay since it dropped.

Young Jonn – Dada

Chocolate City are on a mission, so is Young Jonn. For Young Jonn, it might not be as simple as it seems, but he is on a mission to successfully transition from producer to artiste. The recent mind blowing success his colleague Pheelz has had with “Finesse” is one indicator that Young Jonn can do it as well. And he’s got the talent in his arsenal to do it. With Chocolate City’s label backing, he should do it.

This is one fine record, “Dada”. The beat drop that ushers in the hook, the hook itself? I absolutely love it.

Terri – Danger

I am a big Terri fan, major one. He has a special place in my music heart. He does this music thing well, he knows the art, he’s got major talent. The most intriguing thing about this record “Danger” is his writing. It’s super amazing. I mean, anyone can float on  a beat, but he’s floating on this one, while spitting proper, putting and stringing words together in sweet melodies. The strings, the saxophone in the production, give this record major soul, big shoutout to Krizbeatz.

Kehinde – Dem Ah Chat

To be honest, I am quite unfamiliar with Kehinde’s work, but this particular record caught my attention, heavy. Maybe it’s the “almost Ycee” vibe I am getting from this or it’s something else, but I like this record a lot. The female voice sample, genius. He is totally floating all through the song, emitting serious vibes. I’d definitely play this one several times over.

Oxlade – Want You

Controversy or not, his talent is undeniable. What he does with melodies, how he weaves them? Just immaculate. My favorite thing about this song has to be the simplicity of the hook, and how easy it is to sing along with; the best type of hooks. Oxlade’s falsetto ability makes the record wholesome and enjoyable. What a way to get back into the game and kick off with  Epic Records.
