Nigeria Dominate Cameroon to Reach Women’s AfroBasket 2025 Semifinals

49th

Nigeria’s D’Tigress powered into the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2025 semifinals after a dominant 83–47 win over Cameroon in Abidjan on Thursday.

The defending champions showed their class from the start, recovering from an early 4–0 deficit to take a 21–9 lead by the end of the first quarter. Nigeria extended their advantage throughout the game, outscoring Cameroon 42–18 in the second half. This matchup was billed to be a tricky tie considering Cameroon were the last team to beat Nigeria at the Women’s AfroBasket in 2015. However, Cameroon, who had beaten Angola to reach the quarterfinals, struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace and depth.

Star forward Amy Okonkwo led the team with 18 points and six rebounds, while Nicole Enabosi and Victoria Macaulay added 12 points each. Impressively, all 12 players contributed to the scoreline in what was a strong team performance.

With this win, Nigeria extended their Women’s AfroBasket unbeaten streak to 27 games, dating back to 2015. They will now face Senegal in the semifinals as they continue their quest for a record fifth consecutive title.
