Moving over astrology’s assertion that the ideal match for a Gemini is someone who falls somewhere between Libra and Aquarius, the outcome of your daily attempts is helplessly dependent on planetary movement and associating personalities with the Avatar series’ main elements. There is a slew of other myths that Zodiac signs is held accountable, What about some music?. Before cancelling it entirely, how about its relationship with music?
Everything I’ve said thus far undoubtedly sounds like nonsense. Not unusual as Astrology is regarded as a topic high school girls giggle over. It is highly scientific, in contrast to whatever preconceived notions you may have about it.
Nigerian music is bursting at the seams with ingenuity, and the sky is only the beginning. What a year we’ve had; in fact, this decade should be remembered as a chronology of pleasant surprises. I’m sure the artists who dreamed up these will be proud of what we’ve accomplished thus far. To create the beauty we are witnessing, the journey required all hands on deck and the collision of all personalities.
The twelve zodiac signs are divided into four categories: fire, earth, air, and water. It might sound like a scene from Avatar but hear me out.
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
Prominent Traits: Dynamic and ambitious
Artists: Omawunmi, Mayorkun, and Simi.
These artists are notable for one thing, churning fire tunes, music that unifies people on multiple grounds.
Mayorkun and Simi have gone on to feature on the Billboard charts. See any correlations? Cause I do.
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Prominent Traits: Grounded and Oriented
Artists: Omah lay, Rema, Oxlade, Naira Marley, Raskimono, Kizz Daniel, Ladipoe, Lagbaja and Buju
Taurus is symbolized as the bull, they are headstrong for good reasons, this period isn’t for the weak. The present artist under this sign should be applauded for consistency. Their enthusiasm is unrivalled, with international attributes and recognition. With classics like “Under Pressure” by Raskimono I feel being grounded was infused. Lagbaga was a legend whose works serve as a continual reminder that people back then could groove; Skentele Skontolo and Gra Gra, among many others, are testaments to that fact.
Gemini ( May 21-June 20)
Prominent Traits: Versatile and Expressive
Artists: Mr Eazi, Joeboy, Johnny Drille, Tems, Ayra Starr, Ckay, and Ev Edna Ogholi.
This is the most diverse of all the signs. These artists, described as expressive and flexible, are the leading vibes, according to Tems – I mean, she is the definition of the term. With the birth of beautiful genres, features and recognition are at an all-time high. Not to mention Evi Edna Ogholi, whose tracks were essential for interstate travel, or are you forgetting, “oh yeah! I wish you a happy birthday”? I’m betting you aren’t.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Prominent Traits: Intuitive and spontaneous
Artists: Wizkid and Burna boy
Does this need to be explained?, this sign needs to be renamed “The Grammy club”. This should make you question your belief in astrology. The stars aligned perfectly for it to happen. The spontaneity is pointing at Wizkid, who has everyone on their toes but still sprinkles that abracadabra better than Cinderella’s fairy godmother could.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
Prominent Traits: Outgoing and self-assured
Artists: Timaya and Runtown
This one should come as no surprise. Chulo, like Runtown, embodies self-assurance. Both day ones, especially Timaya, have accomplished a great deal. He was a part of Runtown’s rise to prominence in the industry, and he’s a great example of real people recognizing real people. I believe Timaya paved the way for a lot to happen, but odogwu claims no one paved the way for him. These two have gone on to have much more success. And a timeline observation will show a difference in the quality of delivery.
Virgo (August 23- September 22)
Prominent Traits: Perfectionist and Practical
Artists: 2baba, Asa, and Nonso Amadi
This should be an OG group. Perfectionist should be Asa’s middle name. There’s not much to examine here, greatness is already a common trait – hoping Nonso Amadi adopts that. We can’t talk about Nigerian music without mentioning 2baba and Asa. Both behind and in front of the camera, these two have been forces to reckon.
Libra (September 23- October 22)
Prominent Traits: Diplomatic and Social
Artists: Fela Kuti, Wande Coal and M.I.
The Scales! Apart from Wande Coal – who I think is a Sagittarius, they are very committed to changing how the world is for the better. The Legend himself, Fela Kuti, carried that burden on his back. Diplomatic is a fine term to describe them. Their music is revolutionary and there needs to be more of them in the industry.
Scorpio (October 23- November 21)
Prominent Traits: Passionate and Resourceful
Artists: Davido, P-square and Christy Uduak-essien
This sign is as accurate as any gets. Garnering awards should be one characteristic they share. P-square had an era where they were the rave of that moment. Their passion screamed in deafening decibels. Davido is one of the biggest names in Nigeria right now, the man came in strong and hasn’t stopped once, and his contribution to discovering genius acts is where his resourcefulness comes in. Christy has a staggering number of international awards. The word “international” crops up more times talking about these artists. Mean anything to you? It ought to.
Sagittarius (November 22- December 21)
Prominent Traits: Extroverted and Optimistic
Artists: Teni, Don-jazzy, Flavour and Zlatan.
These people drop fire every time.
Sagittarius is symbolized by the Archer, which to me signifies they’re always on point. Their positivity is unrivalled, and they deliver happy music that can lift anyone’s spirits. Don Jazzy alone is responsible for one half of the business; he’s been delivering fire tunes for a long time, and when he isn’t, he’s working behind the scenes on more fire tunes. Because the country requires more positivism, the industry needs more artists from this sign.
Capricorn (December 22- January 19)
Prominent Traits: Independent and tenacious
Artists: Onyeka Owenu and 9ice
This, in my opinion, is a fantastic fit. Their tenacity is really remarkable; yet, I believe 9ice has a chance to win a Grammy. With a soothing voice, Onyeka Owenu is a plus. Both were peace preachers. More young artists are needed here.
Aquarius (January 20- February 18)
Prominent Traits: Imaginative and Original
Artists: Fireboy, Tiwa Savage, Adekunle Gold, Bella Shmurda and Blaqbonez.
The water bearers who are under the Air element, confusing? Yes. Their fluidity is what makes the industry frictionless. Their originality cannot be argued. I feel they are yet to give us their best. There’s so much promise when it comes to them. Growth for them is constant.
Pisces (February 19- March 20)
Prominent Traits: Affectionate and Wise
Artists: Olamide, Yemi Alade, and Victor Uwaifor
Wise? Yes!, Olamide has been doing so much for the industry since his emergence. Infusing Street style rap and songs, he recruits artists of his genre that have gone on to be successful. He also brought recognition to his style of music, making him an Inspiration to aspirants. Yemi Alade has also been on track with taking our culture to the front view. Victor uwaifor, also legendary for his style of music, has his songs sampled by younger generations. So wise is a good choice of adjective to describe these geniuses.
Analytically If the zodiac signs were humans, Gemini would be the most popular. The Water signs have dominated the recent decade. This generation of musicians is a mix of air, fire, and water signs, with the air sign dominating. With the rise in popularity of streaming platforms, our music has gotten more exposure. International partnerships, as well as honors, are quickly becoming the standard for Water, Earth, and Air signs. Artists of the Air element are also more appealing to listeners of all signs. Astrology has a lot to do with music; with so many performers under each sign, the music industry has a lot to look forward to. It all boils down to Horoscope, the future is in the hands of the fire signs,pay no attention to how the fire tribe is depicted in Avatar. In conclusion I’d rate Astrology 70% accurate.
