Final Verdict

For a preview of what to expect on the album, Amaterasu is largely enjoyable. The music from Remy Baggins is truly his and you could feel his influence in every sphere and subset of the project. His forthcoming album should be highly anticipated if the quality of this project is the standard to expect.

Remy Baggins dropped his third project on August, 2020, titled Amaterasu. The name Amaterasu possesses etymology of Japanese origin,  derived from “Amateru” — which literally translates to “Shining in heaven”. Ironically this project illuminates the young star Remy Baggins is destined to become in the industry.

The project comprises of mostly hip-hop, rap, R&B and trap infusions. This tape welcomes guest verses from some of the most renowned trap/rap artistes in the country, Psycho YP, Boogey, Mojo, Zilla Oaks, Veen, Kiienka and Marv OTM all lend their voices to amplify Remy’s story on this tape.

The entirety of production, mixing, as well as mastering credits are attributed to Remy who is extremely talented and versatile. Spaceship collective’s Telz and the experienced GCL3F are the only guest producers on Amatersu, featured on Gboju and W.I.G.B.? respectively.

Remy’s musical acuity cannot be downplayed in any sense. He raps confidently and buoyantly with bars lauding his production skills, disappointing behaviour of a back-stabbing idol, rapping over his own beats, being underrated and smoking with Jesse Jagz” on 808’s therapy.

Southside gives the feeling of a trap anthem, a beautifully curated track, predominantly featuring artistes from the southern part of Nigeria.

On What’s it gonna be(W.I.G.B.?) he talks about his money making mantra and Zilla delivers his verse smoothly and with precision.

No regrets is much more personal; it sees Remy Baggins sagaciously speaking about his journey and personal experiences as an artiste in the industry.

Amaterasu takes you on an ephemeral journey of Remy Baggins the skilled virtuoso. Cleverly switching between genres while maintaining a domineering cadence. The message on the tape however is brusque, Remy is confident in his abilities and won’t be intimidated by hate. Even though he feels the insistent pressure, his resolution is unwavering.

Standout tracks on this project include 808’s therapy, W.I.G.B.?, No Regrets.
