On King Of Love, Kizz Daniel seemingly plays it safe and that is perfectly okay, as the album is a brilliant body of work.

Genres: Afropop, Afrobeats.

Coming off the back of his fairly successful sophomore album, Kizz Daniel delivers King Of Love, a 17-track album that fully cements his spot amongst the elite musicians in Africa. The album opens up with Jaho, a song of prayer and this album could not have had a better opener. Ada, Boys Are Bad, We Wan Commot and Aii are the songs that follow, all of which have the potential of being hits. We Wan Commot particularly stands out as a great TGIF anthem. Pak ‘n’ Go is a previously released single that got a lot of buzz, and Need Somebody has the markings of a lovers’ song. Tempted To Steal is a beautiful song that tells a story of the pressure a man faces in a relationship. Chek is a fire party starter and Yapa is a lovely Afrobeat tune. Fvck You, One Day, Find A Bae, Padi, Chana, Pipa, Hook round up the album, and among them, there are no bad songs.

Writer’s Thoughts: King Of Love is a solid body of work, and indeed one of the best albums of 2020. Once you get past the fact that some of the songs might sound familiar, there is so much to enjoy and appreciate about the album. Kizz Daniel recognises his strengths as an artiste and he plays well to it on King Of Love.

Standout Tracks: Boys Are Bad, We Wan Commot, Chek, Tempted To Steal.

Verdict: 8/10.
