PROJECT REVIEW – KWAELUDE

On his debut album Kwaelude, Kwado channels internal conflict, pain of betrayal and the clarity of self-realization making it into beautiful music that resonates with the listener. Coming after his first project, Kwado Blues EP released in 2018, there is recognizable growth in his sound on Kwaelude, as the Canada-based alternative star fuses different sounds to create a great project.

Genres: Afrobeats, Afropop, Dancehall, Hip-hop.

The opening track of an album is perhaps the most important song, as it usually determines whether the listener will give the project a full listen or not. With Olingo, Kwado scores full points as his blend of singing and rapping sets the tone for what is to come. Sontin comes up next, and it is a groovy mid-tempo tune. Body featuring Lord D is one of the standout tracks on the album. The song talks about the beauty of his love interest, having a very catchy hook that you will be singing in no time. Omoge and Cast follow, with Kwado switching the flow on Mirabelle, a sweet Afropop tune. Kpoli and High Fashion are hip-hop joints, on which Kwado flexes his versatility. Kolo is a lovely dancehall tune which is a perfect party starter. The outro YamaYama is a track that addresses the issues back home, and the “Face to Face” jingle sample is pure genius.

Standout Tracks: Body, High Fashion, Kolo, YamaYama.
