Since the start of his music career in 2017, Victony’s music has been steadily gathering momentum over time. Hence, this project “Saturn” came with very good anticipation and expectation. This 6-track EP was released in conjunction with Mainland BlockParty and is duly named “Saturn”, in keeping with Victony’s growing reputation of weaving vocals and working with sounds that are different from the conventional songs flooding the mainstream media.

A good number of his fans refer to him as the “Outlaw King” and on this project, he shows us why, vibing on 6 different genres in his own unique way.

SONG-BY-SONG REVIEW

“More” is the opening track of the project and on this Afro-pop instrumental, Victony serenades his lover, asking for more and more of her love. His unique voice and singing style is in full display on this track, as he comfortably glides on the instrumental. He makes sure he is not guilty of doing too much on this song (as many singers often do) by giving enough gaps to let the instrumental breathe and elevate his delivery when he jumps back in. Only stellar production can bring out the best qualities of Victony’s voice—the producers get a pass mark for their work on this one.

Track number 2 features the award winning rapper, Falz, and is titled “Maria.” On this trippy instrumental, Victony sings an ode to his lover, Maria. His delivery is of the highest quality again and he tells his story on an electric verse and catchy hook, even infusing a bit of Spanish into his lyrics. A first class verse from Falz follows (did you expect anything less?) and the song fades to a delightful end.

Sometimes, we all need a little “Space & Time” and Victony speaks for us all on track number 3. Name calling several women, he tells them all to keep their love to themselves and give him enough needed room on this saucy, pop beat. The production work on this track is solid once again, as it gives a fitting balance to the many layers of vocals. Victony laid down on the mic.

Up next is “87 Club.” This is full on trap sounds here and though it’s not listed as one, this song gives off the vibe of an interlude, mainly due to the repetitive nature of the lyrics. Victony manages to showcase his versatility, despite doing the bare minimum on this song—an enjoyable track. You’ll definitely find yourself bopping your head along to.

Much like the title of the song, track number 5 comes through with a “Fasta” tempo than the 4 songs before it. It is intended as a dance track and excels in that regard, with a melody that invites you to get up on your feet and get dancing. Victony multiplies the dance appeal of the instrumental, with his delivery and overall solid performance. Victony invites us to the dance floor once again with “Jo Riddim”, the final track on the project. Don’t be surprised when you hear this one banging from the speakers in clubs across the country, because it has the exact ingredients required of a club banger: Infectious fast-tempo instrumental, with loose and relatable lyrics.

Final Verdict

With the versatility and maturity Victony displays on the six songs, it'll be hard for anyone to guess he is only 18 years of age. With a lot of time for growth and room for improvement ahead of him, it's easy to see many have high hopes for this youngster. His best is definitely yet to come, but the trippy vibes of "Saturn" will do just fine till then
