PROJECT REVIEW – WHILE WE WAIT (EP)

49th

ADEOLUWA invites us into his creative mind with this 4-track project titled “While We Wait”. The bulk of the project consists of remixes of songs from his previous project “After Bells and Whistles” with only the last entry being a brand new song. Romance is the underlying theme guiding the lyricism in this quarter of songs and it all ties together nicely with lovely vocal performances from the main artiste and all those he featured on the remixes.

The journey begins with “Let Me In [Remix]” where he is joined by Kotrell and Oboise. The trio of talents urge a reluctant lover to take a chance on love in this hip-hop ballad. ADEOLUWA mostly sings the hook, benevolently leaving the verses for the guest artistes and from Kotrell’s sultry singing to Oboise smooth rap, both deliver with aplomb. The lyricism is excellent across board and paints vivid imagery in the head of the listener. In summary, this is simply a beautiful song.
Track 2 is titled Old Ways [Remix] and features TOVA and BrayneZee. This pop entry reflects on difficulty of shaking off old habits and how they negatively affect romantic relationships. It’s another round of solid vocal performances from the 3 singers and their efforts makes the listening to this song a smooth and easy experience.

Turnioniown [Remix] is number 3 on the project. ADEOLUWA recruits another duo of artistes for this remix; this time it’s Tomide the Skinny Nerd and Shillz Tex. The instrumental has a lovely trap bounce mixed into the pop sounds and on it the artistes express desperate longing for a lover, without whom their hearts are “turnioniown”. The production really stands out for me on this track, from the beat to the post-recording work it’s quite brilliant and elevates the efforts of the artistes to make a good song even better.

The project closes out with the only original song on it and it’s titled “Escape”. For those new to ADEOLUWA, this is the song that puts the singer in the centre stage without the distraction of other artistes. “Escape” is an Afrobeat bop and the lyrics talk about offering an escape from the stress of the world to a love interest. ADEOLUWA shines bright in this solo effort; his flow and delivery are infectious and his beautiful voice is in full display on this one. He sets the mood right and this danceable tune is a nice way to end the project.
