You might know her as IcTooIcy, or just Icy. However, the girl behind the harmonious tunes is named Ifeanyi. The expansive multi-genre artist can be recognized for her versatile sound. From Hip-Hop to Hyper Pop, Alternative Music with a touch of Afro, Dance and Worldwide. She meanders through genres, utilizing their melodies, beats, tempos, and energies to her satisfaction. Her explorative nature is expressed fully in her music.

Icy is a 21-year-old Lagosian. She’s currently enrolled in university, studying visual communication design. This degree will enable her to learn more about multiple media forms that can be used to communicate, such as film, art, and photography. Icy has always been immensely passionate about music. She grew up with two parents who shared this passion for music, although she cites it mostly was her dad. This love interest fell into her hands as a child and has stayed ever since, engraved in her heart.

Icy started making music when she realized the wonders it did by helping her express herself. She could communicate her emotions better while seeing progress in understanding herself. Whatever she is feeling, she can convey them healthily by inserting them into her music. Saving her from herself at times when she’s feeling dark, sad or depressed. Music serves to give her a purpose and joy that is unmatched. When she started releasing music, the response she got from people who could relate to how she was feeling; created a larger sense of satisfaction. For Icy, music is a way to elude reality. While simultaneously creating something breathtakingly precious. She finds this process freeing and exciting.

Speaking of processes; Icy’s creation process is not too complicated. Listening to the beat comes first; through this alone, she can have lyrics written and recorded within 20 minutes. The visionary that she is; always has a direction for all her songs. She took it upon herself to learn how to mix and master music, ensuring that this prospect stays within the bounds of her vision. Once she is done recording, she mixes it to her fulfillment and then sends it to cherished loved ones to give honest reviews. After receiving their feedback, she can and will tweak the song to make it sound better. Sometimes, her mixes aren’t always to her satisfaction. In these times, it becomes increasingly hard to release or for it to fill her quota for the time being. However, for Icy, practice makes perfect. The more mixes she makes, the better they get. She’s always doing her best to make the new sound better than the last.

Inspiration-wise, Icy does not cite any “one” person or thing that inspires her. Instead, she speaks of how life generally inspires her. From the people in her life to their experiences and her own. It is not particular, but it is powerful. Asides from music, Icys’ interests include photography and art. Stating that they also help her express herself in the same way. She is naturally just interested in anything with creative elements.

As personal and free-spirited as her music is, she still tries to pass a message with her music. She wants those who listen to her to know they are not alone. Their feelings are valid, and it is not shameful to be emotional, to care, to love, or to be intense. You are human; it is okay to go through cycles of emotions, even if they hurt or cause you to doubt yourself. Icy places great care on wanting people to feel validated for the feelings, thoughts and emotions that cross their minds. It might feel like you’re the only one going through it. You’re not and you will be okay.

Icy is currently working on a project called Lagos Romantic. She did not give too many details on what to expect as she cannot describe it herself. However, we should expect it soon. I cannot wait to hear what she does next! To keep up with Icy, her instagram is @icygram_ and her twitter is @ictooicymusic@gmail.com.
