Final Verdict

Generally speaking, the track is a production masterclass, the sampling, mixing and mastering are all of the highest quality. Full credit also to Pablo for tapping into the energy of the beat, he flows effortlessly on this one and creates a very meaningful track in the process. He does so well, refusing to rely on YP to carry the track instead stepping up to show his own artistry in good light.

“Not The One” is an Afro-blues medley released by talented artiste and new J-Town recruit Pablo who enlists the help of Abuja’s headliner, PsychoYP.

As you can almost guess the from the title, “Not The One” is a heavily love-themed track. It’s however not your typical confession of love, no, it’s much deeper than that. The lyrics, though simple, speak of intense emotions that can only come from a deep place.

After a few seconds of letting the catchy instrumental simmer into our ears, Pablo hops on in a sing-song manner. His lyrics speak of impatience as he talks to his indecisive lover. “Is it an if or is it a maybe?” he asks, prompting her to make a decision critical to their relationship. “They’ve been telling me you’re not the one” is how the hook goes, with Pablo pointing to his own doubts and fears in the state of the relationship. He continues on with the second verse, expressing the strain and exhaustion he feels at the state of things between himself and his lover.

Psycho YP comes through as correct as you’d expect on his verse, not mincing words in expressing the effort he has vested into his lover and the need for her to understand his importance before she loses him.

Pablo rounds up the emotional journey with another verse and the hook. On the outro we hear him say “You’re not the only one” as a final reminder to his muse to decide fast.
