It’s always a very satisfying sight witnessing young artistes get due recognition for their talent, skill, and work ethic. Those who have been following Taiwo Olajide Daniel – better known as Jaido P – from his early days must feel nothing but satisfaction and pride seeing him elevate from a battle rapper to an artiste doing hundreds of thousands of
streams on each of his last few songs and videos.
2020 might have been his breakout year, but don’t doubt Jaido P has been on his grind for quite a while now. Consider the curious case of his first single, “Gor Die”, a scintillating and catchy rap song that was released to the world in February 2018, officially. But individuals who passed through the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife were already rocking to a somewhat less finetuned version of the same song as far back as 2014. In fact, the song was so popular in the higher institution that many students knew the wordings to it before even knowing the lyrics to the school’s famous anthem, it was that big in Ife and its environs. Fast forward to 2020, and after steadily working his way up the industry with collaborations with the likes of Davolee, Zlatan, Masterkraft and DJ Kaywise under his belt, he finally landed in the big leagues with the release of the smash hit, “Tesina Pot”, which featured rap legend, Olamide.
As an artiste, street rap is the genre on which Jaido P is most in his elements. He delivers the majority of his lyrics in Yoruba language, heavily studding his verses with street slangs, sexual innuendos, and intelligent metaphors. He seems to favour the more fast-paced and high tempo instrumentals, but the very recent release of “Survive” – which again featured Olamide – proves that Jaido P is not lacking in versatility, and can deliver regardless of the tempo and genre of the song.
Come August 7, 2021 the latest chapter in the story of Jaido P’s music career will be written with the release of his second project titled “Shopla”. It’s primed to be a 6 track EP, of which two singles, “Survive” and “Brokoto”, have already been put out to positive reception. As for what to expect, Jaido P might as well give us more of the street hop singles we now know him for, or do more experimentation and vary the sounds a little, but what is almost certain is that it’s going to be good music all through; the man is simply too talented to lose.
