We are all grateful for Pheelz and BNXN’s “Finesse”, but none more than Icezy. The budding singer’s career received a significant boost when his cover of the hit song was very well received on social media. His unique vocal texture and delightful knack for melodies shone through in his 70 seconds cameo, and you could tell you were witnessing raw talent and untapped potential. And on the basis of that exposure, he has set off on a mission to become the latest in the line of sterling musical exports from Port Harcourt city.
An Imo native bred in the capital of Rivers state, Icezy attributes his passion for singing to his mother who would always encourage him to sing along to church hymns and local songs as a child. He went on to discover music from legends like Fela and Wizkid, encouraging him to do more singing and give songwriting a try. Penning down lyrics became his preferred means of self-expression, and eventually inspired his decision to do music professionally.
His career started off in 2021 when he self-released two Afrobeat songs, “Bless Me” and “Ajebutter”. The former, on which he implored the heavens to send down blessings, was the more successful of the two, although both pulled streams in the tens of thousands across all streaming platforms. Very impressive for an independent artiste, so remarkable that Pixy Entertainment enthusiastically offered him a recording contract towards the end of the year. He has put out two tracks since signing that deal, but it’s the second of the two you should pay more attention to.
Released on the 13th of May and produced by Intellectual Proparty, “Body Riddim” is an inspired Afrofusion jam that pays homage to the voluptuous physique of an African woman. His vocals are smooth and passionate and sounds like that of a lovechild between Omah Lay and BNXN. Icezy himself stated that Kenyan socialite Corazon Kwamboka was his muse for the track and it makes sense in light of the sexually charged lyrics. “Body Riddim” has a strong replay value, but what’s stronger is the temptation to get up on your feet and dance anytime the song comes on. Pixy Entertainment have found themselves a gem; stream “Body Riddim” today and experience Icezy firsthand.
